Today’s recipe is a fresh and invigorating DIY Grapefruit & Sweet Orange Body Scrub that will remind you that spring is almost here!
We typically think of body scrubs in the summer time when we want improve the appearance of our skin. Body scrubs are great for improving skin tone and can actually reduce the appearance of cellulite. But, have you ever considered that all that exfoliating can benefit you in other ways too?
The recipe I’m sharing with you today actually works both externally (to improve skin tone) AND internally (helping to move the lymph to expel toxins.) It also has an added benefit of aromatherapy. The essential oils we’ll be using are refreshing and uplifting and are sure to make you feel a little happier when you use them! Just a reminder, this is for external use only.
Ingredients in the Grapefruit & Sweet Orange Body Scrub
Let’s look at some of the ingredients and how they work:
Sea Salt and Epsom Salt
Both sea salt and Epsom salt contain many minerals that are beneficial to the skin. As we exfoliate the skin with sea salt or Epsom salt, we’re not only removing dead skin cells but we’re also improving circulation and making it easier for our body to detox through our biggest organ–our skin. Exfoliating will also help our skin to regenerate by removing bacteria and unclogging our pores.
Sweet Almond Oil
Sweet almond oil is one of my favorite carrier oils. It makes a wonderful makeup remover and body oil. It has a great texture (not too light/not too heavy) and it absorbs easily into the skin. Sweet almond oil is rich in Vitamin E and monounsaturated fatty acids which are wonderful for the skin.
Grapefruit Essential Oil
I love using grapefruit essential oil in a body scrub. The scent is so fresh and invigorating and it reminds me that summer is on it’s way! Grapefruit is also a great oil for fluid retention and cellulite as it stimulates the lymphatic system to remove toxins from the body.
** A word of caution about citrus essential oils. Many citrus oils are phototoxic, which means you should avoid going out into the sun after applying them to the skin. To be safe it is best to avoid going out into the sun for 12 hours after using the body scrub.
Sweet Orange Essential Oil
As are all the citrus oils, sweet orange is high in vitamin C which helps to heal and protect the skin. Inhaling sweet orange is also a great mood booster!
I hope your excited to give this body scrub a try!
Enjoy!
