Whenever summer rolls around, I’m always reminded of my mom’s homemade lemonade! Made with lots of fresh lemons and a good amount of sugar, it was always a special treat when Mom started juicing lemons.
Today’s Hibiscus & Rosehip Lemonade recipe puts an herbal spin on my childhood lemonade. I prefer to use honey and a pinch of stevia herb but you can use sugar if you prefer. By the way, last week’s lilac infused honey is AMAZING in this recipe!
If you’re unfamiliar with stevia herb, let me fill you in. Stevia herb is the dried, cut and sifted plant in its original unprocessed state (unlike stevia drops or powder which you find in most supermarkets.)
You can purchase cut and sifted stevia or grow some in your garden and dry it yourself. I grow mine easily from seed each year but as it becomes more popular, you may even find some plants for sale.
Dried stevia herb is wonderful to add to your homemade tea blends or if you’re just looking for a natural, unprocessed sweetener. Stevia is much sweeter than sugar and it can have an aftertaste if you use too much, so you only need a small pinch of it in most recipes. When looking for stevia, this is what you’re looking for.
While your Hibiscus & Rosehip Lemonade may look a bit like Kool Aid (and might just fool the kids into thinking this is a naughty, sugary drink,) that gorgeous berry color comes naturally from the hibiscus and rosehips and is loaded with both vitamins and antioxidants.
I plan on making this lemonade a lot this summer for my family!
If you’re looking for more delicious, healthy summer drinks, don’t forget there’s always fizzy Herbal Kombucha, Infused Lemon Balm and the Nourishing Tea Blend is absolutely delicious chilled (both the year round and winter tea blends!)

Instructions
- Bring 7 1/2 cups water to a boil in a medium to large size stainless steel pot.
- Add the hibiscus, rosehips, nettle and stevia to the boiling water. Stir and cover the pot with a lid. Let the tea steep for 15 minutes.
- Using a fine mesh strainer, cheese cloth or a nut milk bag, strain the herbs and rinse out any remaining herbs from the pot.
- While the tea is still warm, add honey or sugar to taste. Stir well until the honey or sugar has dissolved. (As a point of reference, I use 2-3 tbsp of honey in mine and it's not overly sweet that way.) the Lilac Infused Honey is AMAZING in this recipe!
- Let the tea cool and then transfer to a glass pitcher or bottle. Add the lemon juice and stir to combine.
