I’ve been thinking about Christmas gifts for a while now.  If you follow me on Facebook, you know last spring I was experimenting with all sorts of unique jams and jellies to put away for Christmas gifts (and now I’m so glad I did!)   They were so successful, I will definitely post more next spring!   In the meantime, if you’re curious, we loved making Dandelion Jelly and will definitely make that again next year!

While I’m normally a planner and consider myself pretty organized, I might have been a tad early this year when I asked my kids for their Christmas list in early October!  Yeah, they looked at me like I had two heads!   haha

Well, we are now officially into November so I think it’s safe to actually start talking about Christmas and share some healthy gift ideas with you!

What better way to show someone you care than with a healthy, homemade gift that’s free of artificial fragrances and toxic chemicals.  This is the kind of gift I enjoy giving and receiving.

Today on the blog, I’ll show you how to make a relaxing and luxurious Flower & Milk Bath.  I think you’ll love how quickly these come together!

What you’ll need:

**If you are looking for smaller quantities of herbs, be sure to visit your local co-op.  To learn more about what you can purchase at a co-op, check out this post.

In a large bowl, combine your powdered milk, baking soda and dried flowers.

Add the essential oils and stir well to incorporate them throughout.    Scoop your mixture into glass jars or into muslin bags, ensuring you are getting a good mix of flowers and the powdered mix (the flowers like to rise to the top.)  If using a muslin bag, be sure to store the muslin bag in a sealed plastic bag to retain the fragrance until ready to use.

Another option for gift giving would be to layer your flowers in the jar.  Instead of combining all the ingredients together, simply combine the powdered milk, baking soda and essential oils and then create layers with your flowers and the powdered mixture.

To use, pour 1/2 to 1 cup of the bath tea into a hot bath. Stir with your hands to dissolve. Place a strainer in the tub’s drain before draining to catch any dried flowers or hang a muslin bag filled with the bath tea from your tub’s faucet as you are filling the tub.   Do not ingest.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups powdered coconut milk, powdered Goat's milk or powdered milk
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup dried rose petals
  • 1/2 cup dried lavender
  • 1/2 cup dried calendula flowers
  • 10 drops lavender essential oil
  • 5 drops sweet orange essential oil

Instructions

  1. Combine coconut milk powder, baking soda and dried flowers in a large bowl.
  2. Add the lavender and sweet orange essential oils. Stir well to combine.
  3. Transfer to a quart jar with lid. Keep sealed until ready to use or divide up into smaller jars for gift giving.
  4. To use, pour 1/2 to 1 cup into a hot bath. Stir with your hands to dissolve. Place a strainer in the tub's drain before draining to catch any dried flowers.
  5. Alternately, you could add your ingredients to a muslin drawstring bag and hang from the tub drain as the bath is filling with water. (I used 4 X 6 inch bags.)

Notes

Another option for gift giving would be to layer your flowers in the jar.  Instead of combining all the ingredients together, simply combine the powdered milk, baking soda and essential oils and then create layers with your flowers and the powdered mixture.

Do not ingest.
